Join us in welcoming Alfred Engelberg author of Breaking the Medicine Monopolies: Reflections of a Generic Drug Pioneer for a book signing. Copies are available for purchase and signing.
Alfred Engelberg is regarded as the legal father of the modern generic drug industry for his work on the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984 which created the framework for the explosive growth in the use of generic drugs.
Breaking the Medicine Monopolies is a personal narrative of his fifty years of work as a lawyer, advocate, and philanthropist seeking to make medicines more affordable. Engelberg takes the reader inside the mysterious world of patents and explains how drug companies spend millions gaming the law to prolong their monopolies on drugs and delay competition that would lower the price of older drugs instead of investing in the discovery of new drugs. This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand how ill-considered policy decisions and a broken patent system have made medicines unaffordable and provides invaluable insights on how to fix the problem."
